What do we need to know about your vehicle?
To be sure that we can fit a Powerchip to your vehicle, we would recommend that you contact us.
We would need to know some basic information about the car, obviously the make and model of vehicle and also the year of maufacture.
On some vehicles we may ask for a bit more, the rest of this information will be about the ECU. First you would need to locate the ECU, you can look on our ECU location guide for this. If your car isn't listed then please contact us, we should be able to help you find it.
Once you have located the ECU, there are a few things you should take note of:
-Manufacturer of ECU (ie BOSCH, Siemens, Ford EEC, Bendix, Denso etc.
-The ECU will have a label on it that will have part numbers and ECU codes printed on it. You should write all the information down, and have it available when making your chip enquiry.
-In some cases we may give you instructions to look inside your ECU and obtain further information, ie a chip number, this contains the exact software that your ECU contains.
Methods of chipping
Powerchips can fit a 'chip' to your car using one of many techniques. The method we use depends on the particular car and ECU.
The
best and easiest way to have a Powerchip fitted is to come to our premises in Cheshire and have
one fitted by one of our experts.
For a range of vehicles you would be advised to go along and see one of our official Powerchips Flashpoint agents who are set up around the country. You can see where they are by clicking on the Flashpoint Agents link. The Flashpoint agents can reprogramme your ECU by using our latest hardware. This is done through the diagnostics port.
If you come to see us, we can reprogramme the majority of modern vehicles by flashing the ECU through the OB2 diagnostics port. With this method there is nothing on the car that is physically changed, this means that the chip is undetectable by your main agent!
We understand that it is not always possible to come to Cheshire, so we do offer another service where you can remove the ECU from your car and send it
to us. We would normally advise that you send in the post (usually Royal Mail Special Delivery is most reliable and it is
next day), we will then modify the ECU and send it striaght back to you
using a next day courier service. The turnaround for this service is
about 3 days, we will try our best to send the ECU out the same day as
we receive it.
*NEW Mobile Remapping Service available*
Collins Performance Engineering can now offer you a new mobile service for remapping vehicles using the latest Flashpoint Genius equipment.
Depending on your location, we should be able to send an experienced technician out to your home or workplace, and reprogram your factory ECU with one of our Powerchips maps.
You can call us on 01260 279604 to discuss your requirements and to arrange an appointment.
